Hi SP! I thought I would tell you in case you came out this way that the Hungarian store has finally closed it's doors:(( They had been for sale for 8 years and thought they had a buyer a Hungarian man. He was suppose to take over on a certain date, but has not been seen or heard from so they closed their doors. They will be missed, I guess when I want some Kolacs I will have to resort to making it myself:))

Happy New Year, sp!

One of the local farmers here is advertising for old Christmas trees in stead of turning them in for shredding/recycling so he can feed his goats! Seems much better than the goat drop they do in Halifax ;-) OK, they are stuffed toy goats, but still..

"It is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it... anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. "

Hiya wu! No idea where my writing mojo went but even this is difficult. Is it Solstice, yet? It's dark and cold and I want the light back.

I'm okay otherwise. Got enough mojo for this because I happened to remember this year:

If only there were a website that I could go to to see what's going on with the weather in my area, like, all on one page >:(

Darn it, GG! I was packed and had the truck reserved ;-) I think we're in a pickle, probably several. Not the collective we, but some of us. Many good points, not the least of which is that too many people would rather vote for no one than a 'she' or my guy's not on the ballot. Apathy is not good...

Hi SP, Think I have seen you about Poppy's blogs some and thought I would drop by for a visit. A cozy little blog spot you have here. Hi to GG, Ylee, and Poppy. Bogon and WTS - Sorry if I missed anyone else. I am Shirley aka WeatherWise or WW to most. My blog is all over the place so far as discussions go - anything goes. Most of my blogs seem to focus on birds I see or birds I did not see. Sometimes, I get lucky and see a bit of wildlife or make a trip worthy of blogging about but mostly just everyday life. Hope you will stop by and visit some day. OH, and forgive my typos - sometimes it is me and often it is my cranky laptop keyboard. Have a good weekend, SP. Adding your blog to my favs.

Well gg you are awesome. I'll rethink the leaving the country thing. Anyway, mom says Mexico and I say Canada so I suppose I'm stuck here. Though I think I'd like Mexico fine but there isn't much need for wooly clothes there and I do love my knitting ... maybe in the mountains ...

Problem is, Ylee, They think they are fighting for their freedoms same as us. We have different notions of who deserves freedom and what that means. The fight must go on.

Scalzi tweeted this cover of a Leonard Cohen song and I thought I'd post it for those who like misery when they are miserable.

Me, I'm about to finish up my work day and crack open a book and leave this world for awhile. Maybe Grass by Tepper. I read something by her many years ago and it knocked her off my list of authors to read for being too romance-y. I'm told not all her stuff is like that and that this one is very good.

Hey, the weather has been great, if a little warm, with lovely sunsets and Venus blazing in the evening sky.
Find something joyful to do. Consider the butterfly that hasn't a clue how messed up we've made its world. It just goes on eating and looking for mates, oblivious to our angst and despair, until a bird comes along and makes it dinner, but it doesn't know that's coming so it's okay. Get there for a moment and it will make the other moments easier.

I'll just say that on this Veteran's Day, that with each generation, not only do we have to fight for our freedoms abroad sometimes, we have to fight for our freedoms here, too.

There is little comfort in knowing one is sane while standing in a room full of destructive lunatics.

Here's the rub about this whole election, it is an exact mirror of our collective souls and heads buried in the sand. Strategically, Bernie Sanders was the best chance for a grown up in office, not because of his policies and demeanor but solely because he is a white man. He may have had a chance to get a republican House and Senate to actually work for the good of the nation.

The last eight years have been spent by the red side trying to undermine a Black man who dared to become president. We did not see such vitriolic hate spewed at Bill Clinton. People do not want to admit it, but yes, a large portion of America turned on President Obama because he is Black. Even many liberals cringe and pretend this isn't the truth.

Many Bernie supporters did not go to the polls because while they would support a white guy, they just couldn't get behind a strong woman who knew how to work the system and championed the rights of minorities (include all of us that are underdogs). This was fine until she dared try to break the glass ceiling, but even all those oh so liberal Bernie supporters were not willing to go to the polls and vote a woman into the Presidency.

Just as well she didn't make it. If people thought the crap they gave a Black man who became President was bad, they were really naive to think a woman would fare better. It is much more socially acceptable to publicly degrade women. In fact, I believe it may be a national pastime. It was sadly naive for Ms. Clinton and the Democratic Party to believe that even if she won she could have actually broke the ceiling. It would only have taken the public abuse and ridicule of smart powerful women to a new level of being acceptable.

I voted for Hillary Clinton anyways. She was the best candidate. Sadly best is not what the majority want if it is a woman.

The only thing I can be hopeful for is that enough people pull their heads out and speak up. Threatening to leave the country is cowardice. They want you to leave. They want you to be quiet. Now is the time to roar.

We know who we are now, right? We can stop pretending that they're going to go away, that they are old and dying out, that they are the "fringe", right? We can stop compromising, stop waiting for some magical day when nationalism, racism, and sexism simply evaporate, right?
Gavin Newsom (Cali Lt. Gov.) said on election night that the Trump victory was the "last gasp" of people like that and he wasn't the only one to make such statements so, no, I guess that's not right. Keep your head down by sticking it back in the sand and wait until next time when the magic will finally happen.
Right?
