People of Earth your attention please. This is Prostectic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planet Council. As you no doubt will be aware, the plans for the development of the outlying regions of the western spiral arm of the galaxy require the building of a hyperspace express route through your star system and, regrettably, your planet is one of those scheduled for demolition. The process will take slightly less than two of your Earth minutes thank you very much.
MANKIND: [Yells of protest]
There’s no point in acting all surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for fifty of your Earth years so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaints and its far too late to start making a fuss about it now.
MANKIND: [Louder yells of protest]
What do you mean you’ve never been to Alpha Centauri? Oh for heaven sake mankind it’s only four light years away you know! I’m sorry but if you can’t be bothered to take an interest in local affairs that’s your own regard. Energise the demolition beams! God I don’t know…apathetic bloody planet, I’ve no sympathy at all…
Scene 7: Ext. Space.
The Earth is destroyed in a huge explosion.
Apparently, the member blogs and photo galleries here on WU are experiencing the same thing the people of Earth did in 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy', when the Vogons appeared in their big yellow spaceships and made the above announcement. We are being demolished to make way for a bigger, fancier, more cutting edge wunderground. It's also a bit like taking a small, family/residential barrier island town and letting the developers in to kick out the local community and build hotels, condos and McMansions and make more money. Just my humble opinion. I think it's a mistake but ... it's their site and they can do what they like with it. I don't have to like it.
I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited my little blog, whether you posted or simply lurked. You've made my time here on WU a very enjoyable one. I'll miss the community we have had here on WU. We made friends and had a lot of fun. We supported each other during personal and/or family crises and celebrated the personal and family happy occasions. We've laughed, we've cried and we've whooped and hollered.
You can find me online now as Lowcountry Bug at Flickr in Sandi's WU Survivors group. I am also signed up with Rain's Seeds of Weather Underground and will probably sign up with Rob's The Ark site. I may eventually join WordPress. I just need to take my time, get used to the formats and how each site works before deciding which will be my home base and which sites will be visited on a more or less regular basis.
I guess that's it, then. So........ So long, and thanks for all the fish!
