Heads up Android users!! Storm is coming to Android!

By: WundergroundDevs , 6:29 PM GMT on May 13, 2016

We know it’s been a long wait, but the wait is almost over. Launching soon, Storm for Android will round out the Weather Underground series of mobile apps. We are busy putting the final touches on the app so that you have an optimal app experience. We really appreciate your patience with us and want you to know that we are just as anxious as you are to launch the app. It’s been on our radar for far too long.

Storm will replace the Intellicast app as Weather Underground’s severe weather/map focused mobile app. Because weather matters to you, Storm has all of the advanced storm tracking and weather tools you’ll need to stay on top of the weather in your area.

Specifically designed for severe weather situations, Storm dives deep into the data, giving you everything you need to help keep you, your family, and loved ones safe. Storm offers the highest resolution radar available, along with several map options including lightning, storm tracks, global radar, fronts and severe weather watches and warnings. This map data, along with Storm’s Advanced Storm Cell Analysis lets you know when a storm is expected to reach your location and the estimated impact it will have when it arrives.

This is just the beginning. You can expect new and enhanced features in future releases.

Whether you need to know whether to bring an umbrella or seek shelter, Weather Underground’s apps have you covered.

We look forward to bringing you Storm by Weather Underground.

Storm App is suppose to show the wind direction arrow (with speed and cardinal direction) just under the Feel Like and Humidity

when you tap on the current condition box the wind direction arrow will act like a compass to the right of the temperature circle.

The Intellicast Android weather app is going out of business and they suggest storm as a replacement, but there are no wind direction (and temperature) arrows which was very helpful for me. Are you working on this? Thanks.

I hate the tiny little weather map on storm that is all junked up with crap on the screen. And if you go large screen, you still get the massive bar to play past radar. Intellicast was way better. You have proved the statement "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" to be true.

This new Storm app sucks. The graphs are gone, app has more annoying ads. Constantly trying to get you to pay the yearly fee. The actual radar info is a much smaller screen area. Can't expand it like you can with Intellicast

I don't need an app to tell me what the temperature "feels" like. That is the most useless weather info there is. The temp is what it is, period. Get your lazy azz outside to find out what it "feels" like. The Intellicast app is much better.

Storm is also horrible on my Galaxy TabS. Forces you into portrait mode. My TabS sits on the Samsung keyboard and works like a laptop. I've uninstalled from the Tab, and when Intellicast stops working, that will be uninstalled as well.

The app for Android does not seem to track my location in real time. Location on the device is turned on, but it still shows results from my home, which is about 20 miles from my work. I have been at work for over 4 hours. I have tried turning location off , then on again, and clicking the location button in the app.

If you use the Intellicast app and are convinced it's a great UI, I encourage you to read this blog post about mobile app design. Intellicast is a terrible experience, filled with ugly gradients, non-standard buttons, small touch targets, intrusive banner ads, pop-up dialog boxes from the Gingerbread era, and a confusing hierarchy of menus and submenus. If Storm shows a little bit less information, but actually acts like modern mobile software, then I'm all for it.

Have it on my iPad. Love it!
Better than with playing a video game.
Including the earthquakes and the marine maps add on.
Glad to here its coming to my phone!
Thank you!
(Could you make the lightning radius country wide, or adjustable maybe?)

Storm is an AMAZING app, there is absolutely no reason to be disappointed about this change. I saw all of the negative comments, and I couldn't leave without adding a few words of encouragement.
I had an Android phone a few years ago and was an avid user of the Intellicast app, but then I had to switch to an iPhone for work. I was bummed because the Storm app was all that was available for Apple products, but I downloaded it anyways because I'm a huge weather nerd and had to have access to a radar and weather data.

Storm blows every other weather app on the market out of the water! Not only do you have access to everything currently available on the Android intellicast/wunderground app, you also gain access to individual storm data (tracking, volume, rotation, and intensity, just to name a few...) and more in depth reports and analysis. I just switched back over to an Android phone, and I was heartbroken when I searched for the Storm app and couldn't find it.
I promise, you will not be disappointed with the switch to Storm, it is by far the best weather app out there!

Rather than have several apps, why not roll everything into the main Wunderground Android app that we now have? Why divide up the goodies? (I've been a WU subscriber for ~10 years or so.)

ABOUT TIME!!!!

I don't like how intellicast doesn't have the future radar anymore, it has it, but doesn't work. How much longer?? Can't take it anymore!

Why??? Your article states "specifically designed for severe weather situations". What about the not so severe situations?? If it ain't broke don't "fix" it!!!!

I don't want storm. I searched for a long time to find intellicast. Are you trying to force storm on me. Why mess up a great intellicast app. I don't want blogs from hundreds of bloggers. All I wanted was intellicast. Did you buy intellicast, or did you own it and now messing it up. I will not be forced to use storm. If intellicast is going by the wayside, or is being changed to what you think a app should be. I will uninstall it, and find another weather app. Explain to me why intellicast is going away. Don't tell me you are giving a better app. I loved intellicast, and want be forced to change. I will uninstall and find another weather app I want. Not what is being forced on me. You must own intellicast because the future radar doesn't work any more. Please furnish me an explanation by email for messing up a perfectly great app in intellicast. Please respond. I will be waiting. If intellicast stays as is, I will keep it. Change it, and I'm gone !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please respond by email to me so I will know if I need to stay finding another app that is as close to intellicast as possible. I lived intellicast as is. Didn't want more junk info pulled into an app that I don't need on a phone. Storm is great for laptop, desk top, but don't want it on my phone. Please respond to let me know if intellicast as is well be gone so I know what I need to do.

Are you nuts! For years I've had three or more weather apps on my phone. Not long ago we discovered intellicast. It quickly became my favorite weather app, and I deleted all other weather apps. I really like the user interface and all of the features. Please don't screw things up by replacing the best weather app ever.

No doubt you'll say the new weather app will be great. But I've watched so many other apps come out with an "upgrade" that was far worse than the old app.

Two things are very important to me. 1) the ability to easily jump from feature to feature such as from Maps to the 10 day forecast. 2) for the app to start on the page of my choice. Please don't follow the lead of other weather apps requiring us to scroll from one area to the next. Also I like the density of the displays of Intellicast. Don't do what USA Today recently did by "updating" their app resulting in larger graphics with lots of whitespace.

How about publishing a beta release so we can give feedback?

How about allowing us to continue to use Intellicast in parallel with the new one?

Intellicast has been my only 'go to' weather app. I have found no others that can compare. I've tried other's, even ones with their own network channel, and all they do is take up space and mess with the functionality of my devices. If Wunderground.com say's they are improving what they already have, LOOK OUT weather watchers something really good is just over the Horizon!!

I'm new to Intellicast but not to the rest of The Weather Company's Android apps. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with Storm. The two pics look great!

I use intellicast because it is the best and easiest to use. I may wind up removing all weather apps from my mobile devices if my only choice is Storm.

YUCK! I already have it on my iPad and won't use it because it's so annoying to use.
What's wrong with weatherunderground?

The screen shots you show seem to be designed for phones. I use Intellicast on a tablet. The new app will be a huge disappointment if it doesn't have a landscape layout.

This is bad news. Intellicast is much better than Storm on iPhone. Won't be using Storm.
