Heavy Rains mid next week across FL

By: StormTrackerScott , 12:56 PM GMT on February 17, 2017

GFS has this California system over FL next Wednesday & Thursday. This totals could be much higher if the GFS and some of these other models verify. Very unusual to get a cut off low this far south in February.

The system projected to be over FL next week is currently slamming into California.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Melbourne FL
444 AM EST Fri Feb 17 2017

Mon-Thu... Primary attention continues to focus on a potential GOMex
system that mid range guidance has been hinting at for the past
several days. A very strong zonal jet spans the Pacific Ocean south
of the 40th parallel, with a 180KT core positioned about halfway
btwn the Aleutian and Hawaiian islands. The leading edge of the jet
is beginning to dig off the CA coast and is forecast to become
highly amplified over the next 24-36HRS.

Once it does, the stage will be set for an unsettled WX pattern for
central FL at midweek. The kink in the mid/upr lvl wind field will
work its way into the Central Plains on Mon before its srn extension
cuts off over the GOMex Tue Night into Wed. Interaction with a deep
lyr anticyclone over the Mid Atlc will generate a brisk E/SE breeze
by daybreak Wed, bcmg S/SW on Thu as the storm core works its way
acrs the FL Peninsula.

While the fcst will be subject revision considering the system is in
the 6-7day timeframe, it should be noted that this unusually
southward track can be favorable for strong or possibly severe
storms with hail and and strong wind gusts in east central Florida.

.NOW...

Low pressure at the surface currently centered west to northwest of
Orlando will linger across the area today. This will allow scattered
to numerous showers to push onshore north of the Cape and move inland
through early afternoon. Greatest coverage of showers and potential
for moderate to heavy rain will mainly be limited to the Volusia
County coast. Otherwise precipitation should be light.

Yesterday they were forecasting low 40's for the weekend lows now they have upped that to upper 40's. Not cold by most standards and this is still above normal by about 5 degrees. It is spring here. The plants and animals have reacted to it. The sea trout and redfish are out on the grass flats and feeding heavily. Most deciduous trees have already leafed out and even the turkeys are going through there spring time rituals. It doesn't appear there is any cold air coming until possibly next winter. Hope it swings back to a cold winter next year. Heck, at this point I would just take a normal winter or I am moving northward!!!

Its actually much warmer up here in C FL as we have a NE wind. Also your temps are lower as a result of being under the cold upper low. Temps near 70 with dewpoints in the upper 60's

More moderate to heavy rain about to come ashore across Volusia County and this should rotate SW toward Seminole and Orange Counties later this morning into early afternoon. So we could pick up another .25 to .50" of rain later today across the area. This one system has erased our February rainfall deficits in most location to right at normal to just above normal for the month. There are some areas however that did not fair as well and that was over by South Orlando where they missed out on that heavy rain band that fell most of the day across the northern parts of the Metro extending to the coast.

Special Weather Statement
National Weather Service Melbourne FL

...Areas of locally dense fog until around 900 am...

Areas of fog have formed early this morning across areas from
southern Osceola and southern Brevard Counties, southward to Lake
Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast. The fog will be locally dense and
reduce visibilities to one-quarter mile or less in spots. The fog is
expected to linger after sunrise and then dissipate by around 900
am.

Motorists should drive at reduced speeds and be extra watchful for
rapidly slowing traffic in front of them. This is especially true for
vehicles on busy interstates, turnpikes, highways, as well as well-
traveled rural routes.

Always use low beam headlights when driving in fog.

Good afternoon. It's been a dud here thus far. I checked my rain gauge 5 minutes ago and only have .04". All the good stuff has been along the immediate coast or offshore in my area. I'm hoping as the low moves east it'll set up a more E-W flow versus SE-NW and allow some of the heavier bands to penetrate far enough inland to rack up a respectable amount. NWS JAX was forecasting a little over an inch for me.

Glad to see some of ya'll have been getting decent amounts.

Static radar that won't update. Eastern Duval County (Jacksonville) has been cashing in.

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
Northeastern Broward County in southeastern Florida...
Eastern Palm Beach County in southeastern Florida...

* Until 530 PM EST

* At 134 PM EST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to showers

Swing and a miss so far at my locale here in Levy county. Looks like the models did pretty good with the rainfall and where the heavy stuff would fall (panhandle, south fl and the east coast). Hopefully the rain helps some of the drought areas, although it so far has missed the one dry county in the northern part of the state.

Missing me here, just south of the Orange Co Conv Ctr. Looks like 0.05 in this area. 0.13 back home in Oldsmar.

well suns breaking thru the overcast here so we'll get some daytime heating maybe, and the wind gusts here are getting a bit stronger now..no rain at all by me now..so far anyway...everyone ok out there?..dont see any NWS severe warnings yet.

nothing much going on over here in Fort Lauderdale. Very light rain. I doubt anything measurable as of yet. I think it is raining harder in Miami, and West Broward from the look of the radar.
