I can't believe two months has passed by so quickly and we will be leaving towards Canada and working our way back to IL this next week. We have done most everything we expected to do while here. Taken hundreds of photos. Had two of our grandsons visit for 2 weeks and took them to Canada, Hurricane Ridge, the Sand Sculpture contest in PA, traveled on the "Ducks" in Seattle. Lot's of Firsts including Flying, Ferries, the Strait of Juan de Fuca and other Beaches (with water so cold our grandson said his toes got "Brain Freeze!"), Border Crossings, Whale Watching, and "Real" Mountains with Trees taller than any they've seen. (Since they both grew up in the Midwest (IL) and Luke (13) had never been west of the Mississippi or flown, and Zach (10) had only been to Alburque but no farther... this was truly a trip they won't soon forget!)
We have had such a great time here in Sequim and all the surrounding communities. Have enjoyed a little R&R, some reading, and kick back days amongst all the sightseeing and busyness of the grandsons' visit.
We've spotted eagles parents, and watched two juveniles as they progressed from climbing onto the edge of the nest to first attempts at flapping their wings, to early test flights and then now they're gone on to strike out on their own. (Took dozen's of photos of their progress, but only a few were good enough to share on WUG)
Saw sunsets, sailboats, a submarine, got nearly up close and personal with an oil tanker on our ferry ride back from Victoria, BC. We've seen more sea birds and critters than I can count. Two young deer in the parking lot of Hurricane Ridge picture is on WU because they were licking something off the pavement and would hardly move out of the way of the cars and people surrounding them. (only thing we've wanted to see but missed is the Elk.)
Cape Flattery has got to be one of our most recent and best highlights. David and I both received an Approver's Choice for different photos we took and posted from our trip we took for our anniversary. Visited the Museum on our way to the Cape Trail and walked along the Pacific Ocean on a sandy beach near the Hobuck Resort southwest of Neah Bay. We stayed in Sekiu at Olson's Resort. It was wonderful to hear the waves crashing against the sea wall to put us to sleep that evening. I insisted we leave the window open just a little bit, so we could hear the waves... even though it was quite chilly that night.
Traveled through Forks on the way home, the Salmon Hatchery (Very interesting to see a huge Chinook Salmon up close), and Sol Duc Hot Springs NP.
All in all, we've made some new friends here in Sequim. Although we may not return next summer due to graduations and a different route, we will surely return again sometime in the near future. And who knows, we may just end up making this our "summer" location once we settle down and get off the road full time.
Check out some of my photos during this last month. I like the photos I've posted, even though some days the weather wasn't always as cooperative as I would've liked. You get what you get... and don't throw a fit!
I've enjoyed sharing these special moments with my hubby and friends. Now I get to share a little with all my WUG friends.
It's late, so "I'll say Good Night!" -- Loretta

Sequim is located in between Port Townsend and Port Angeles on Highway 101 along the Straits of Juan de Fuca.(The Strait leads from the Pacific Ocean to Puget Sound.) It's on the Northern edge of the Olympic National Park and is in the mountains' "Rain Shadow." Which means it gets less rainfall than other locations in this same general area.Sequim is pronounced more like "Sqim" or Swim with a q instead of w. The town is becoming a haven for retirees looking for a co...

It's Father's Day weekend and there are lots of activities in the area. It's still a bit cool and pretty cloudy, although it seems the sun is trying to make it through the clouds. We are to meet a couple of local WU ladies today. I'm looking forward to it. Hope the rain holds off so all those folks and vendors for the Farmers Market can get around without it being too muddy.I may just have to find somewhere that sells those slip on boots for over your shoes if this ...

It's been a while since I posted on my blog. But now that we are spending most of our summer here in Sequim, WA I thought I could start up again. We're looking forward to spending time exploring all around the part of Washington State and across the pond to Victoria, BC.The last couple of days the clouds have been hanging low and sometimes so cloudy you can't even see the mountains usually in view from the RV Park where we're currently staying.I've posted a couple of...

For those unfamiliar with IL, Morris is located about 60-70 miles SW of Chicago at the Intersection of I-80(E-W) and IL ST Route 47(N-S). The majority of the town is on the North side of the Illinois River, with the IL & MI Canal running parallel in between the river and the town. Near the Rt. 47 bridge and in town are some of the places where the I&M Canal comes the closest to the IL River. In fact, today the "towpath" (called the I&M Canal St. Trail) on the south ...

I'd like to be ready as in Ansel Adams quote: "Sometimes I'm there just when God is ready to have someone click the shutter." Thanks for visiting! |
