Hugs and love --- flying around the blogs, trying make sure all and everyone has at least one wave of friendship, hug and love for being a part of what made WU an neat place ...... from the Deep South of USA, state of Mississippi .....

I am in Flickr and now -- DISQUS - (same nick and avatar) and have been in FB, since almost the start due to my kids who first got me into that web... lol ... anyway look for my avatar as it is also the same in here, FB, and DISQUS

So long, RenoSoHill.
I hope the wu photographers have found a new home to enjpy. I have enjoyed their photos and blogs here for many years. Your fishless blog is priceless. Just wanted to stop in and say thank you.
Best to you and yours. Take care,

Doesn't appear that there is much interest for a last hurrah. In fact you are about the only one Brian. It appears the stake has been driven. Gonna miss seeing everyone. Hopefully this blog will be a connection point until WU kills it to.

Just heard about this. Going to miss this site and the people. It looks like as long as we are members of Weather Underground we can continue to chat with each other via the blogs and mail system. Just wonder how long that will be available since they seem to want us to go to social media with all the selfie takers.

I'd be up for one last hurrah. I'd attend if it was within a day or two of travel and during a time I could make it. My retirement has been put on hold for the next three months. Got begged to go back to work with an offer that was a too good to refuse.

I really enjoyed the Jackson Trip, may this time do Yellowstone, staying at outside the park at North or West Entrance?

Did a little math, and 2 million photos at 300kb each(Which is the average size of the World View pics, normal photos are smaller) is just 600 GB, which is less than the size of a bottom-of-the-line 1TB hard drive you can get online for less than $50, just sayin'....... :' )

My webcam blog will be here until I see the "closed" sign.... :' ) Glad to see Fishless will still be around!

I suppose "Watson" IBM's super computer thinks he/she/it has seen it all so don't need to fill the memory banks with almost two million photos. I agree it is a shame but money talks and photogs aren't spending enough money on the advertisers would be my guess. I think they started this just to get more traffic to the website for "look at our volume" to the advertisers.. Based on my thinking - blogs are next. I have no proof, just my thoughts!! Yes Ylee - we have our photograper's group on Face Book - but not the same for sure. Still a place to keep in touch with FRIENDS.
I don't want to see the blogs die either - I need my FISHLESS for smiles....

I wouldn't worry about your PWS; those are the real moneymakers for the company. I remain hopeful that the blogs will stay.

Maybe you all could start a Flickr group?

No - we had no idea. In fact I first saw it on face book and thought it was another "Fake News" item. I have asked if the blogs were going to remain or if they were on the chopping block. I read between the lines somewhere - there is a big thing on the migration of servers in about 3 months. No sure what that is.. So far I haven't heard anything about my PWS going away.

Friday Harbor offers whale watching boats as well. You can walk on the ferry for free and take the ferry from Orcas to San Juan.
Don't forget Lopez Island. It's a sweet little island with lots of great views of the area as well.

Depending on the size of the boat, and the quantity of rain Molly and I may be interested as well in the whale watching.

Quoting 75. KSMc:

Duane, thanks for getting this to us. It is too bad you and Jeanne won't be able to make it.

Is anybody interested in going whale watching while we are on Orcas Island?
Quoting 76. SVLover:

I think there will be lots of us who would like to do the whale watching thing. I found one excursion that seemed a bit pricey, but it was more of a wildlife whale watching trip. Kristina suggested maybe looking at San Juan Island?
There is a boat from Deer Harbor (on Orcas), think the price was $89... I am interested (6 or more we get a 10% discount)
Link

...and another thing, rooms have microwave and coffee maker, might be a good idea to bring some breakfast items since the restaurant doesn't open until 8am and breakfast is not included in the room rate...

Hello All!
Our gathering is coming up quickly and it's a necessity to make reservations on the ferry to get back and forth to Orcas from Anacortes.
I just made reservations on the WA State Ferries website:
http://www.wsdot.com/ferries/Schedule/ScheduleDet ailByRoute.aspx?route=ana-sj-sid
Click the green reserve now button at the top of the westbound ferry schedule.
I made reservations today, October 3rd. The available trips home from Orcas to Anacortes Monday the 10th are
0845 and 1715. The mid day ferry is not available for reservations as of today.
Look forward to seeing everyone again and lots of fun!
Marianne

Well - better late than never, Rich!! So glad you and Elizabeth will be joining us. We are a shake of a lambs tail away from sending out the 'schedule' which is suggestions on what you all might like to do, but also a group shot event, and of course dinners!! We should have the schedule emailed by this weekend to give you all ample time to plan on what you would most like to do.

Getting so excited now!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone again next week. We are taking our motorhome and staying in an RV park on the Orcas Island.
Does anyone have an outline or schedule that will guide us through the weekend?
See you on Thursday!

Try I as I may, I can find no way to attend this year's get together.
Just too much "life" going on and that would be a really long drive for
me, since I don't fly. Just can't carve out enough time. Hopefully, next
year will be different. Have a ball, everyone! I can't wait to see your
photos and I will really miss you.

WoW - time is flying, just a little over 100 days 'til the fun begins.. Plans are being drawn up and this is the time to throw out any ideas on the event you might have rattling around in your camera case. If you have been to the San Juan Island before, What was your favorites. If you, like me, have always wanted to see them - what is your main interest?

Don't forget to make your reservations.

Steve and I are very excited to see Orca's Island in the fall. We have been in February over a year ago during the off season on a deal from Livingsocial.com that was gifted to us by our kids. This year we took a trip to San Juan Island. Beautiful farmland on both islands plus interesting sights to see (and photograph) and sites to visit. I have a new lens for portraits, so I hope to be able to get some nice shots of all of us. Oh, and my suggestion for photo ops is to go to Mount Constitution. You can see everything! I was not able to make it up the tower stairs that year, but I'm hoping to this year as I have less weight to haul up the stairs...hehe.
