End of an era?

By: ChiThom , 4:48 PM GMT on February 26, 2017

Now that we have a SCOTUS (So-called president of the United States) to test our endurance, I have discovered that my computer is no longer supported by Apple, nor Firefox.
It's an imac from late 2007. It lasted a long time, and had many fixes and upgrades during our "Great Recession" when I couldn't afford a new computer. They all recommend I buy a new computer. This makes me very sad. :-(

It has been a good machine, a fine machine. Sorry to see it go. I guess I will "drive it until the wheels fall off", and then I will get a new one, reluctantly. "Make America great" my ass.

I wonder how many peripherals will have to be bought next? Printers, back-up hard drives, web design programs, partitions, (windows quit working with an upgrade by Norton last year) disc readers, to mention a few.

It's been a kick "talking" to you guys and gals, and posting a few pictures of weather and birds, which will also be terminated for reasons unknown.
I am becoming a dinosaur. I don't want to change, I just want to improve my current conditions and I'll do some work to achieve that effect. But an asteroid is approaching my world, to extend the metaphor. These wheels are on fire and this ship is taking-on water, to mangle the metaphor.

And now they're gonna get a new service sans wunderphotos and who knows what else? Will the past be saved for posterity? I wonder what the next generation blog will bring? I'll see you-all on the other side of the gulf...

Chicago Freight Tunnels: A century-old network of freight tunnels underneath the city's historic business district. Didn't one of these flood in the early 1990s and cause a billion dollars in damage downtown?

(I think) you will have to go to DISQUS and create a new free account there.

(I think) the new format at WU will be via DISQUS, so you night want to go ahead and claim your handle. I did, and made a tiny little post. It's not much, but it's a start.

Just as I am learning to use the blog, it becomes obsolete. I am so tired of learning new things all the time. When I learned reading writing and arithmetic, it stayed the same for the rest of my life! Learning new computer platforms is an exercise in futility!
I still have floppy discs but now they're using thumb drives!

This is what you get when you post that embed code directly in the comment box:

I'm pacing my comments very slowly on my blog--want to wait until the new blog software is adopted before starting a new one. I don't like the 2000 comment limit. I evaded it in my last entry but it's still annoying.

Youtube embed code - change the { at the very beginning to < and replace the video identifier (in this case _OO2PuGz-H8) with the video identifier you want. Paste directly into comment box.

{embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/_OO2PuGz-H8"=en_US&versio n=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true">

A friend of mine...and an old customer... has had some water damage at the Lodge, out on the Mississippi River, some 120 miles from home. It seems the dishwasher sprung a leak, and with nobody there, it flooded the whole house, which had hardwood flooring throughout. It all has to be stripped and replaced, along with re-installing kitchen cabinets and some drywall and insulation, and painting several rooms that were flood-cut by Service Master for mold mitigation. My girl and I are going to do it together. It will take at least two months, and we'll stay there for a week at a time.
He also asked me to get the jeep started and drive it home. It's a 1953 jeep, Korean war era, rag top and no windows, except the windshield. The rag top is simply a piece of canvas stretched from the top of the windshield to the roll bar. The jeep will go 60 mph, but the engine is screaming at that speed. 50 would be more reasonable.
The only problem is that I am not a fisherman.

Thank you H G W. But it still didn't work for me like it did for you. Maybe I have to wait, or maybe my computer is just too old.

I'm trying a couple more variations.
