Statement as of 5:00 PM EDT on July 3, 2009 ... Possible record low temperature tied in Bluefield West Virginia... The morning low of 55 degrees may tie the current record low at the Airport in Bluefield... previously set in 1998. This has only statistical significance however... since the current record is unrepresentatively high. The record low of 55 is higher than the records at the Virginia cities of Roanoke... Danville... and Lynchburg. This illustrates the occasional effect of a short period of record.
