Special Statement
Issued: 9:33 PM CST Feb. 22, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Travel conditions likely to deteriorate overnight...

Snow was developing across the area Thursday evening, though
lingering dry air at low-levels had delayed the onset of the snow
from what was initially expected. As of 915 PM, the most
significant snows were occurring along a corridor from Rhinelander
to Wausau, with just occasional light snow and flurries elsewhere.

Precipitation will increase in coverage and intensity during the
late evening and overnight hours as the low-level dry air shifts
out of the area. It should remain primarily snow in north-central
and far northeast Wisconsin and fall as periods of snow and
freezing drizzle in central Wisconsin. A mix of snow, sleet, and
freezing rain is expected in east-central Wisconsin. The mix will
work it's way farther north by late tonight. Meanwhile, slightly
warmer air arriving in east-central Wisconsin will likely result
in the precipitation changing to light rain and drizzle by

Travel conditions across the area are likely to deteriorate
considerably overnight as the wintry precipitation increases. If
traveling tonight, be sure to allow extra time to reach your
destination. Also plan on needing more time than normal for the
Friday morning commute.
