* flood advisory for...

Washington County in east Tennessee...
Hancock County in east Tennessee...
Cocke County in east Tennessee...
Greene County in east Tennessee...
Unicoi County in east Tennessee...
Lee County in southwestern Virginia...

* until 1045 am EST.

* At 517 am EST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause
minor flooding in the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Johnson City, Kingsport, Morristown, Greeneville, Newport, Erwin,
Rogersville, Sneedville, Jonesville, Jonesborough, Bean Station,
Tusculum, Surgoinsville, Pennington Gap, Baneberry, Parrottsville,
Banner Hill, midway, gray and Oak Grove.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of east Tennessee and southwest Virginia, including
the following areas, in east Tennessee, Anderson, Campbell,
Claiborne, Grainger, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson,
Morgan, northwest Carter, northwest Greene, Scott TN,
southeast Carter, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union, and Washington TN.
In southwest Virginia, Lee, Russell, Scott, Washington, and
wise.

* Through Sunday morning

* periods of moderate to heavy rainfall will overspread the region
through early Sunday. Additional rainfall accumulation of
around 1 to 2 inches is possible with localized amounts up to 3
inches.


* Given the already saturated soil and high stream flows, the
additional moderate to heavy rains will likely cause
significant stream flooding, roadway flooding, mud slides, and
main Stem river flooding. Potentially life threatening
flooding is possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy
rain... which may lead to flooding in and near the watch area. Be
alert for rising water or water over roadways. Keep informed...
and be ready for action if flooding is observed or if a Flood
Warning is issued. If you come to a closed or flooded Road... turn
