Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 8:46 AM EDT Sep. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Coastal flood advisory now in effect until 1 am EDT Thursday...

* location... northern and central coastal areas of New Jersey.

* Coastal flooding... minor coastal flooding will occur with high
tide this morning and again this evening.

* Timing... high tide on the New Jersey and Delaware oceanfront
occurs between 8 am and 9 am this morning. The next high tide
occurs on the oceanfront between 8 PM and 9 PM this evening.
High tide on the back bays and along Raritan Bay occurs later
than the high tide on the oceanfront.

* Surge... 1.25 to 1.50 feet above the astronomical tide.

* Impacts... localized roadway and property flooding is expected
in low lying areas near the oceanfront that are prone to tidal
surge. Some roads may be closed due to high water.

* Outlook... the potential for minor coastal flooding near the
times of high tide will continue into Thursday and perhaps
Friday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory means that minor tidal flooding is
expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some Road
closures. Usually... the most vulnerable roadways will flood.

Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged... leading to
costly repairs.
