The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* urban and small stream flood advisory for...
Catawba County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...

* until 745 PM EDT.

* At 550 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in
the advisory area. Up to one inch of rain has fallen since 500 PM
EDT.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Hickory, Newton, Conover, Longview, Maiden, Claremont, Catawba,
Mountain view, Bandys and Cooksville.

Additional rainfall of one to two inches is expected over the area.
This is expected to result in minor flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Please report flood water flowing over roads or threatening property,
or landslides to the National Weather Service by calling toll free,
