Flood Warning
Issued: 3:02 PM CST Feb. 20, 2019 – National Weather Service


The Flood Warning continues for
the Big Black River near Bentonia
* from Thursday morning until further notice.
* At 2:15 PM Wednesday the stage was 20.3 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 22.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will rise above flood stage late tomorrow
morning and will continue to rise to near 27.0 feet Wednesday
evening febuary 27th.
* Impact... at 26.5 feet... flooding of agricultural land has more than
doubled in the last 1.5 feet rise.
* Impact... at 25.0 feet... extensive flooding of agricultural land is
occurring.
* Impact... at 23.5 feet... agricultural land near the river begins to
flood.
* Impact... at 22.0 feet... low lying Woodland areas along the river
begins to flood.
* Impact... at 21.0 feet... minor low land flooding occurs along the
river.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Yazoo River at Yazoo City
* until further notice.
* At 10:00 am Wednesday the stage was 31.9 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 29.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 33.0 feet just
after midnight tonight.
* Impact... at 32.0 feet... minor flooding of mostly agricultural land
is occurring outside the levee protection system.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of central Mississippi, east central Mississippi,
north central Mississippi, northeast Mississippi, northwest
Mississippi and west central Mississippi, including the
following areas in central Mississippi, Attala, Choctaw,
Holmes, Humphreys and Yazoo. In east central Mississippi,
Noxubee and Winston. In north central Mississippi, Carroll,
Grenada, Leflore, Montgomery and Webster. In northeast
Mississippi, Clay, Lowndes and Oktibbeha. In northwest
Mississippi, Sunflower. In west central Mississippi, Sharkey.

* Through this afternoon

* additional rainfall amounts of one to two inches are expected to
fall on saturated grounds.

* The flooding of roads, low lying areas, and areas with poor
drainage is expected. Water levels on areas rivers and streams
will be rising as well. If encountering flooded roads,
remember to turn around, don't drown and be especially
cautious at night.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
