Excessive Heat Warning

... Excessive heat warning in effect until 8 PM CDT Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued an excessive
heat warning... which is in effect until 8 PM CDT Sunday.

* Heat index values... up to 106 due to temperatures in the mid
80s... and dewpoints in the lower 70s.

* Timing... through the early to mid-evening and again on Sunday
afternoon.

* Heat indices... will range from near 105 to 110 degrees this
evening and 100 to 105 degrees on Sunday.

* Impacts... prolonged exposure to the heat and humidity may lead
to heat-related illnesses if precautions are not taken.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation
where heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids and stay
in an air conditioned room. Stay out of the sun and check up on
relatives and neighbors. Temperatures within vehicles can become
lethal in a few minutes. Never leave children or pets in
vehicles. Remember to beat the heat... check the backseat.
