Avalanche Warning
Issued: 2:42 PM MST Feb. 22, 2018 – National Weather Service

The following message is transmitted at the request of the Forest
service sawtooth avalanche center.

... The Forest service sawtooth avalanche center in Ketchum has
issued a backcountry avalanche warning...

* timing... in effect from now until 730 am Friday morning.

* Affected area... for the Soldier Mountains including the
mountains near Fairfield.

* Avalanche danger... the avalanche danger for the warning area is
high.

* Reason/impacts... heavy snowfall and wind are combining to
overload a weak snowpack. Widespread areas of unstable snow and
avalanching will occur. Both human triggered and natural
avalanches are likely.

Precaution/preparedness actions...

Avalanches may run long distances... into flat areas... and can run
into mature forests. Stay off of... and out from underneath...
slopes steeper than about 30 degrees. Avalanches may impact
recreational trails... roadways... and structures.

Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended.
