Tuesday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of central Iowa, north central
Iowa, northeast Iowa, northwest Iowa, south central Iowa,
southwest Iowa, and west central Iowa, including the following
areas, in central Iowa, Boone, Dallas, Grundy, Hamilton,
Hardin, Jasper, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, story, Tama, and
Webster. In north central Iowa, Butler, Franklin, Humboldt,
and Wright. In northeast Iowa, Black Hawk and Bremer. In
northwest Iowa, Pocahontas. In south central Iowa, Madison,
Mahaska, Marion, and Warren. In southwest Iowa, Adair and
Cass. In west central Iowa, Audubon, Calhoun, Carroll,
Crawford, Greene, Guthrie, and SAC.

* From 7 PM CDT this evening through Tuesday afternoon

* rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible through Tuesday
morning. In addition, localized amounts over 5 inches may occur.

* Significant ponding and flash flooding are possible through
Tuesday morning due to heavy rainfall. In addition, renewed
river flooding may result Tuesday through Thursday. Be aware of
night time flooding and water covered roads!

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

... Line of strong thunderstorms with brief heavy rain and wind...

At 722 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Webster City to Madrid. Movement was east
at 30 mph.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with these storms.

Rainfall amounts up to one inch will be possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Ames, Boone, Webster City, Nevada, Story City, Huxley, Madrid,
Slater, Roland, Jewell Junction, Gilbert, Woodward, Iowa State
Center, Boone Speedway, Big Creek Lake, Maxwell, Colo, Cambridge,
Stratford and Radcliffe.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1000 PM CDT for
central Iowa.
