Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 2:36 PM HST Aug. 18, 2018 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* flood advisory for...
the island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* until 530 PM HST.

* At 234 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain from Kalapana to
Volcano. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
Expect elevated water levels in areas streams through the
afternoon.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
Hilo, Hawaiian acres, orchidlands estates, Glenwood, Pepeekeo,
Keaau, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Volcano, Pahala, Wood
Valley, Hawaiian Paradise Park and Pahoa.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to
flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don't drown.


This advisory may need to be extended beyond 530 PM HST if heavy rain
persists.
