The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a
heat advisory, which is in effect until 9 PM PDT Sunday. The
excessive heat warning has been cancelled as a few degrees of
cooling is forecast.
* Temperatures... 98-103 degrees across lower elevations. Night-
time temperatures in the 70s will be common.
* Impacts... the very high temperatures will create a dangerous
situation in which there is an increased threat of heat
related illnesses. Temperatures inside vehicles, even if the
windows are partially open, can quickly rise to life-
threatening levels. The extended heat wave will also bring
elevated fire danger through the weekend, with critical fire
weather conditions on Thursday.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned
room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and
